Who the f**k is Helmut? Behind this pseudonym hides the musician Adrian Schull, who, for whatever reason, makes the first name, which some former Federal Chancellors call their own, the title of his solo undertaking. Helmut does indeed fit what can be heard on "Polymono", like the proverbial fist on the eye. "Focus On The Inside..." Adrian and Helmut ponder casually and unagitatedly in "The Tribe" and give us a sign where he wants to lead us with his ten new songs - to the inside. Discreet loops, even more discrete guitars and a vocals that in its transparency is to be rated as part of the music itself turn the songs into gems that, despite or because of their discrete arrangements, are of heavyweight size. For an electronic album the guitars and the popappeal are a little too much of a good thing, for a pop album the loops click and clatter a little too superficially. "Same Same" in its lively approaches seems like a track from a current Radiohead album: from electromodification to art excess. And "Overcome" is like Weilheim on Club.
