Thomas L. Hardin alias Moondog is a real cult figure from the New York melting pot of the 50s and 60s. His face with linen cape and Viking helmet and his life on the street gave the blind musician and poet additional underdog charisma. In fact, his compositional and arranging techniques were visionary and prepared the ground for both Minimal Music and Krautrock. The three-headed Italian band with the fitting name Hobocombo started out as a Moondog cover band, but their second work now also frees them up with their own pieces. "Theme And Variations" sounds like a medieval piece together with hurdy-gurdy, but it ends with Sixties-Blubber-Electronics. The mamboinfested "Desert Boogaloo" could have come from CAN if they had started at least a decade earlier. "East Timor" with childlike female vocals is a kind of easy listening cover of a song by Robert Wyatt. Again and again the trio fuses world music percussion, sixties guitars, lounge blowers and minimalist electronics in an eccentric way. A truly deconstructivist sound jungle.
