John Wesley was tour guitarist at Porcupine Tree. He was also involved in Fish and supported Marillion. "Disconnect" is already his sixth studio album. With his string colleague Dean Tidey, bassist Patrick Bettison and drummer Mark Prator on "Disconnect" nine years after his last work, he offers ten songs that can't necessarily be described as prog, but also don't have the typical AOR elements. So what's this? Maybe the best way to describe it is Elaborate Rock. The songs can be compared in instrumentation, arrangement and melody with Ray Wilson's (was/is also a Progger sideman) - with the difference that Wesley's songs don't "get along" without excessive solos. The "get away" in quotation marks, because often the guitar escapades seem more artificial than meaningful. Guitar fans may see it differently. And she will certainly enjoy the Guest Appearance of Rush guitarist Alex Lifeson on one track.
