Two years ago, legend has it, Johnny Cash's son John Carter Cash discovered a lost album of his father in his estate. In fact, he had recorded songs for a record with producer Billy Sherill in the eighties. But his Columbia status was very bad at that time and the label wanted to get rid of the ex-star who had been stoned in their eyes. The recordings believed lost are now experiencing an unexpected release. In fact, "Out Among The Stars" isn't that bad from today's perspective, with the knowledge of Cash's acquired status as a music legend thanks to Rick Rubin. Some songs are silly, others a bit clichéd, but all in all Cash shone as the usual sympathetic, raw-hearted storyteller, who has already seen everything and can't be impressed by anything anymore. The instrumentation sounds like Nashville, but is reserved and fully in the service of Cash's voice - although this can also be due to the remastering of the recordings. Nevertheless: a rediscovered album, which should be interesting not only for collectors.
