Jazz needs new voices. Jü is a Hungarian power trio consisting of guitarist Adam Meszaros, bassist Ernö Hock and drummer Andras Halmos. Together with the Norwegian free jazz saxophonist Ketil Möster, they try to get to grips with music that, in spirit, establishes a connection between Velvet Underground and Sun Ra. On the linearly attracting grooves of the Hungarians, the Norwegian shoots off a modal fire of out improvisations in the spirit of the late sixties, only that the common sound betrays an intensive preoccupation with musical extremes of the present. And while we're at bridges: Meszaros' cutting as well as blues-infiltrated guitar forms the shortest possible connection between Duane Allman and Sonny Sharrock. Little importance is attached to subtleties here. "Jü Meets Möster" offers testosterone jazz at its finest.
