Born in 1978, the Argentinian-Swedish singer and guitarist José González is known for his demanding indie folk, which gave him his well-deserved breakthrough as a solo artist ten years ago. Already at that time he had another project in his backhand with Junip, but his debut did not appear until 2010. For the follow-up CD "Junip" González and his comrades-in-arms Tobias Winterkorn (keys) and Elias Araya (dr) took enough time to let the ten songs mature. Even though Junip's style can still be described as alternative folkpop, herbaceous undertones mingle again discreetly with the airy arranged songs ("Suddenly", "So Clear", "Walking Lightly"). Co-producer Don Alsterberg deserves special praise for making the perfect decision to capture the band's interplay as 'live' as possible. Of all the pieces in this high-quality song collection, only the somewhat monotonous "Your Life Your Call" is slightly inferior in quality. "Junip" is an intoxicating work, which also offers a great orchestral ballad with "Line Of Fire".
