KAREN MANTLER - Business Is Bathroom

Karen Mantler, daughter of pianist Carla Bley and trumpeter Mike Mantler, spent much of her childhood under her mother's piano and should have been a passionate jazz hater. Instead, she herself, as a chronically bad-tempered pianist, harmonica player and singer, enters the middle of her life in puberty. She hasn't made a record in a long time. But her combination of infantile observation of the world and artistically self-confident minimalism has in no way been polished off. Together with guitarist Doug Wieselman and bassist Kato Hideki, she sings against the hardships of modern society like lawyers and executors. Passion is not to be noticed to her, rather cultivated boredom. Their album, however, is anything but boring, because it is the great contrasts and their distinct sense for lurking beauty that make these songs an event.
