With "Memories Of Days Gone By" the Dane Kira only paid her tribute to the legendary jazz singer Billie Holiday in 2012. Now she is already providing further proof of her creative power. "When We Were Gentle" moves further into the midnight dark indie realms otherwise travelled by Nick Cave or PJ Harvey. She intones her "Idea Of Love" with a brittle, brittle voice to acoustic guitar, bass and echoed keyboards and strings. An electric guitar croaks and complains spontaneously. From this fabric one must weave somnambule love dreams. "Quiet Violence could easily be covered by Portishead. Here, however, it is offered completely without electronics. The title track gently chugs along on light Mellotron swings. "In Another Dream" could be featured in any Tarantino movie. The sound architecture of the album is of exquisite quality throughout, a few songs can't quite hold the initial level, but spun works of art like "Cold Water" or classical (in the sense of Marilyn Monroe) heartbreakers like "Morgan's Serenade" lift this album far beyond any mainstream.
