KURT VILE - Walking On A Pretty Daze

Kategorie: CD-Reviews | Genre: Folk/Folkrock | Heft: Jahrgang 2013, eclipsed Nr. 150 / 5-2013 | VÖ-Jahr: 2013 | Wertung: 8/10 | Label: Matador | Autor: WK

Kurt Vile's melodies flow gently as if there were no time, no origin and no goal. The young singer-songwriter with the seventies mane is always good for a surprise. His mix of elements from the late sixties, early seventies, mid eighties, and early nineties sounds like a decelerated version of his great role model Dinosaur Jr. Some things are also reminiscent of Neil Young. What would be a devastating verdict for any other CD is meant very positively on this record: it splashes along, pleasurably and obliviously like a stream that meanders innocently through a valley meadow. Even though Vile writes solid songs and sometimes even reaches out to hard riffs, they still seem as soothing as an ambient record. His guitar solos sound enraptured, his singing partly almost uninvolved to snotty. You can simply devote yourself to this album, it's just as good for driving a car as it is for cooking, reading or just staring at the sun. An impressively timeless piece of music for every situation in life, which was created entirely by itself and seems to flow through Kurt Vile just like that.
