Malpractice are on the wrong track if they think that with this immature combination of Thrash and Progressive they are called to higher consecrations. Technically the Finns are fit, no question about it, and so they don't keep behind the hill either, as the (stunzlangweilige) instrumental "Symphony Of Urban Discomfort" and the nevertheless quite overflowing excursions in the (quite appealing, because with partly atmospheric parts provided) 15-minute title song prove. But the problem is that Malpractice don't show a special feeling for exciting songs and great melodies on their fourth album either. Just like the opener "Best Kept Secret" is an absolutely faceless heavy rock boredom and the main riff of "Weight Of The World" sounds like the rejects of a bad Megadeth session. Unfortunately, the bite and finesse of Mustaine & Co. cannot be achieved, but it is always possible to present fabric softener refrains. To make matters worse, singer Aleksi Parviainen often sounds less powerful and not particularly charismatic. All in all "Turning Tides" is neither fish nor meat.
