Berlin-based pianist Tim Sund has refined his craft with jazz greats such as Frank Chastenier and Richie Beirach and has released ten albums under his own name to date. With "Now", the debut work of his formation The Mightiest Ever, the 42-year-old composer is now getting ready to stir up the German jazz scene and at the same time inspire the cosmopolitan progrock fans. The nine pieces with a total length of 77 minutes recorded in the Berlin rbb studios show that the quintet has developed a cosmopolitan band sound that will also appeal to normal listeners. The Mightiest Ever are most reminiscent of the Pat Metheny Group of the late eighties ("The Rest Of Our Lives We'll Be Free", "Forward And Beyond"), but without falling into the all-too-lovely. Now" gets additional format through the use of trumpet and flugelhorn (Christian Kappe) as well as violin and viola (Valentin Gregor), for example in the hopeful "The Dark Days Were Behind Us". "Now" is without doubt a sophisticated CD of international format.
