Kategorie: CD-Reviews | Genre: Jamrock | Heft: Jahrgang 2014, eclipsed Nr. 163 / 9-2014 | VÖ-Jahr: 2014 | Wertung: 8/10 | Label: Sugarhill | Autor: WS

The new one from moe. offers a full hour of music with eleven tracks. And it's packed again with all the jam-rock magic tricks that make this versatile band so special. The "Annihilation Blues" by Chuck Garvey reveals their blues-heavy Southern Rock roots; Joe Bonamassa meets the Allman Brothers Band. "White Lightning Turpentine" by Robert Derhak first follows acoustic paths, but then develops into a fast ride through the desert. This I Know" by Alan Schnier is classical songwriting. The cool "Same Old Story" then also lets more complicated rhythms, the vibraphone and flippant singing à la Tom Petty run free. The two longtracks "Silver Sun" and "Billy Goat" present moe.schen Jam-Rock between Grateful Dead, Zappa and psychedelic sounds, whereby "Billy Goat" is more directly connected to the Dead sound than the wonderful more powerful "Silver Sun", which could become a live classic of the band. In between, moe. travel their very own planet with countryesque, bluesy or sometimes brass soaked ("Blonde Hair And Blue Eyes") gems. Quality goods.
