A few years ago, when Berlin-based guitarist Chris Lyne (Soul Doctor) decided to start a new bluesy hard rock project with singer Keith Slack (ex-Michael Schenker Group), who lives in Austin, Texas, insiders listened up. But hardly anyone could have guessed what a monster album it would be. This is mainly because Chris with his coolest riffs ever and Keith with his best vocal performance to date are really burning for this project and you can clearly hear this with every sung note and every guitar lick played. Mother Road (the name refers to the legendary Route 66 in the USA) quickly manages to shake off the plagiarism on "Drive". Of course, there sounds a lot like Led Zeppelin, Free or the Black Crowes. But similar to Kingdom Come on their second album, or Great White, Mother Road develops its own identity here. This makes "Drive" irresistible and unique, even though every note on this album has been played and sung a thousand times.
