You could also call it "romantic gloomy pop" what the Finns do here. When Marko Saaresto languishes as in the title song or as in the very soft "Rebirth", his countrymen obviously feel warm around their hearts. Because the band is highly successful in their home country and sells their albums - four of them made it to number one in the Finnish charts, gold and platinum were there for their sales figures - like the proverbial warm rolls. A little 80s nostalgia comes up with some of their songs, which sound like lost potential single hits. So "Choice Millionaire" looks like a hybrid of Pet Shop Boys and Nik Kershaw, only with a more modern keyboard sound. And the beginning and rhythm of "Clear Blue Sky" are very similar to the Phil-Collins hit "Baby Don't You Loose My Number" (but then develops in its own direction). But the poets can also do quite differently, as the instrumental "Rogue" proves, which one could well imagine on a Dream Theatre album. All in all the songs seem very smooth. The most edgy is the opener "Daze", which can rock a bit.
