At Popa Chubby, the element of "surprise" is always very popular. Sometimes the shining guitarist and singer raves in blues rock, then in decent blues and sometimes even in rock'n'roll and hard rock. His current album is a fine example of this approach. Texas blues, as celebrated by Stevie Ray Vaughan ("Danger Man", "I Don't Want Nobody"), a blues classic with jazzy undertones ("Rock Me Baby"), a number reminiscent of the early Fleetwood Mac ("69 Dollars") and airy, casual boogie with a high dance factor ("The Finger Bangin' Boogie") are perfectly and with many nuances realized. And a cover like "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" doesn't bother, which was arranged full of ideas, but doesn't fit to the rest of the record stylistically. And he's a scoop.
