Multi-instrumentalist Robert Reed is known for his band Magenta. Now he has fulfilled a wish as an admirer of the early Mike Oldfield works and recorded an instrumental work in the spirit of "Tubular Bells" and "Ommadawn". He received competent help from Tom Newman and Simon Heyworth, the producers of the tubular bells. The cover artwork and the list of all instruments used were also based on the 1973 milestone, which was responsible for Reed making it his business as a teenager to learn to play all the sound generators used at the time. The melody, a recorder, shimmering tones, a charming guitar, mandolin, piano - a worthy beginning, as if one already knew all that. Even the cutting electric guitar tones come as if from the master himself. Just like him, Reed puts together his patchwork of folk, ambient and rock. Again and again he orients himself on the original without becoming a pure copyist. Dynamic changes, rich melodies and instruments - everything here. A fine work. Do you think Mr. Oldfield would like it?
