Because you can hardly wait for a new good Queen album without the blessed Freddie Mercury, you should be happy about new solo works of old Queen men. Drummer and part-time singer Roger Taylor has always been a lively guy, having written pieces as different as "Radio Ga Ga" and "I'm In Love With My Car" for the band. Taylor's view of "Fun on Earth" begins with "One Night Stand", a genuine, almost AC/DC-like boogie hardrocker. The elegiac "Fight Club" with its beautiful saxophone and spherical sounds is almost back in the eighties and Bowie. Many titles shine with great melody and great guitar work. "I'm A Drummer (In A Rock N' Roll Band)" hits it just like Queen did. The multi-instrumentalist Taylor succeeds on his perhaps highest quality album in producing the feat without any form of overproduction, stylistic diversity and atmospheric depth as in the seventies. Old good rock virtues. Let's just hope Rod Stewart doesn't cover the single "Sunny Day" right away.
