A monster adorns the cover: a king crab of one meter length in the hands of a fisherman. "Kongekrabbe" is the Norwegian name for this cute little animal and at the same time the title of the debut of the twelve-piece band Skadedyr. The five tracks on this album are just as difficult to handle as this sea dweller. The instruments used cannot be overlooked. It begins with indefinable noises, before brass players put a lively melody on the floor, while in the background Indian and carnival songs alternate. The title track then brings something to the relative feel-good: a calm bass line, flattering melodies, sparkling piano notes. The bird shoots "Partylus." Every second, the almost eight-minute track changes through roughly 100 styles of past days: 30s swing, Glenn Miller bigband sounds, music like to a Laurel & Hardy flick, the "Je t'aime" moans of Jane Birkin, opera singing, Marlene Dietrich, a funeral march in New Orleans and, and, and. Heavy stuff. Very hard.
