In the last ten years Tori Amos has made herself very comfortable in her niche: Two rather weak regular albums, which looked very schematic, a successful, albeit somewhat habitual excursion into serious music, in addition a Christmas album and finally a recording of old songs in classical costume. In this respect, "Unrepentant Geraldines" must be seen as a return to old class. For a long time now, the eccentric lady's compositions no longer sounded so to the point: she again plays with sugar-sweet melodies that play around her typical, unorthodox lyrical approach. It's about espionage, politics, religion. New is the pastoral tone of some songs with which Tori Amos wants to explore the folk tradition of her adopted country England. This also means: more acoustic guitars that accompany her filigree piano playing, and more mysticism, not only in the lyrics, but also in the music. The only slip is "Promise", the rather unsuccessful duet with her daughter Tash, in which both reflect their intense mother-daughter relationship. All in all, however, it seems that Tori Amos has found her way back to her homeland after years of sometimes directionless wandering: her music.
