After a break of eight years Violent Silence from Uppsala, Sweden, are back with their third CD "A Broken Truce". In the meantime there have been some changes in the band: Mastermind Johan Hedman (dr, keys) is still at the wheel, but the somewhat controversial singer Bruno Edling has been replaced by the more variable Martin Ahlquist, whose vocal power is limited by a slight lisp. For further keyboard parts Hedman was able to win back the two former keypressers. And a look at the booklet confirms it: Also this time Violent Silence manages without guitars, which gives the music a certain recognition value. While the first two CDs were characterized by compact pieces, the prog card is played on "A Broken Truce", with each of the four songs exceeding the ten-minute mark. The piano lines Minimal Patterns ("Prism") mix again and again among themselves. And although the pressure is sometimes missing ("Rim Of Clouds") because of the missing guitars, "A Broken Truce" sounds very transparent in a positive sense.
