40 years MARILLION - Of court jesters, fear and the end of the seasons

In 2019 Marillion celebrate their 40th anniversary. And also the second incarnation of the band celebrates a round anniversary: "Seasons End", the first album with the new frontman Steve Hogarth, was released on September 25th, 1989 and was the starting signal for the eventful second life of a band that many had already written off at that time. In addition, an extensive box will be released dedicated to the "Afraid Of Sunlight" album, which in turn is about to celebrate its 25th birthday. So there are enough reasons to dedicate yourself intensively to the history of this unique band.

FLYING COLORS - Supergroup on installments

At the beginning of October the FLYING COLORS released "Third Degree", their third studio album in eight years. Could the output be bigger, or is the motto "quality instead of quantity" exactly the right recipe for the Prog-Supergroup? On the other hand, this may not be such a bad cut considering all the projects the band members are involved in.

MARK LANEGAN - Music lover without sense of mission

Those who have worked together with Kurt Cobain, members of Pearl Jam and Marianne Faithfull or contributed to the milestone "Songs For The Deaf" of the Queens Of The Stone Age, almost inevitably have legendary status themselves - an expression which, however, always has something of the past. MARK LANEGAN, however, is still a highly productive artist who loves to do his own thing and also likes to collaborate across genres.

PERE UBU - At the end of a path

The King is dead, long live the King. The band Pere Ubu from Cleveland in Ohio was always ahead of their time and at the same time had both legs in the story. She borrowed her name from the grotesque play "King Ubu" by the French writer Alfred Jarry and invented post-punk even before the great explosion of punk. With her new album "The Long Goodbye" she says goodbye. Or is it?

TONBRUKET - Music and Antimusic

In so-called jazz circles it doesn't happen too often that a band with an unchanged line-up releases six albums over a period of ten years. The Swedish quartet Tonbruket is an exception. On his new album "Masters Of Fog" it's once again about Start.

PRIDE & GLORY / ZAKK WYLDE - Close to the heart

In 1994 the only album of the Southern Rock formation Pride & Glory was released. After Ozzy Osbourne announced his first departure from the rock business after the album "No More Tears" (1991), guitarist Zakk Wylde suddenly had no job. In 1992 he founded the band Lynyrd Skynhead with the White-Lion rhythm team consisting of bassist James LoMenzo and drummer Greg D'Angelo. Some songs of the trio appeared on the sampler "L.A. Blues Authority Vol. 1" (1992), but under the name Zakk Wylde. In 1994, before the self-titled debut album was recorded, the name changed with the addition of drummer Brian Tichy (Billy Idol, Whitesnake, Foreigner and Kenny Wayne Shepherd). One year later the chapter Pride & Glory was over after a worldwide tour and several festival appearances in Europe.

KEITH EMERSON - Building bridges between classical music and rock

On November 2nd, ELP keyboarder Keith Emerson would have celebrated his 75th birthday. For many progrock fans, the Brit, who put an end to his life on 11 March 2016, is regarded as the most brilliant representative of his guild in terms of playing technique. But Emerson also set standards in other areas: as a top-class showman, as a groundbreaking composer and as an ingenious mediator between classical music and rock. Critics liked to accuse him of gigantomania, while his artistic achievements were swept under the carpet. Therefore, it is time to pay tribute to the merits of this great musician once again.

LEPROUS - No more fear!

The fantastic journey of Leprous continues. Since their debut "Tall Poppy Syndrome" the Norwegians have taken a fascinating musical development. Already with "Bilateral" they emancipated themselves from the original approach (Black Metal paired with classical prog rock of the seventies and jazzy passages), with albums like "Coal" and "The Congregation" they then joined the top of a fresh new prog metal generation. With "Pitfalls", their sixth album, the band is now also vehemently freeing themselves from this (for them never really existing) corset, the musical palette of the quintet seems to be almost unlimited from now on. In an interview singer Einar Solberg talks openly about his severe depression.

MICHAEL KIWANUKA - "This album asks the question who I am"

The English singer and guitarist with Ugandan roots took his time. But now Michael Kiwanuka has finished his third studio work. On 25 October the album with the simple title "Kiwanuka" is released. With eclipsed, the 32-year-old artist spoke about creativity in difficult times and the search for oneself.

BETH HART - With radical self-exposure against inner demons

At the latest since her cooperation with Joe Bonamassa on the celebrated album "Don't Explain" in 2011, Beth Hart has been regarded as the high priestess of blues rock. In her new work "War In My Mind", the Californian fights against the dark shadows of her past.

THE MAGPIE SALUTE - Musical Dam Breaking

Another flood alarm at THE MAGPIE SALUTE - but mastermind Rich Robinson and his five comrades-in-arms continue to wade through all the unrest these days on their second studio album "High Water II".

LAURA COX - From YouTube star to new rock sensation

The French singer and guitarist LAURA COX has been rocking the clubs in Europe for several years now and has gained a loyal fan base. This should be even bigger in view of the grand classical rock album "Burning Bright" which will be released on November 8th. At the beginning of this career were self-produced video clips.

BENT KNEE even more experimental than before

"Expect the Unexpected" - this motto by Peter Gabriel could also apply to the American art rock sextet Bent Knee. While the graduates of Berklee College Of Music have delivered their most accessible song collection with their predecessor "Land Animal", the fifth album "You Know What They Mean" is their most radical statement, which occasionally disturbs with harsh sounds, on the other hand reconciles with emotional art rock songs.

RAY ALDER uses the Fates Warning break for his first real solo album

"Vamos!" calls Ray Alder. 22 degrees, a lukewarm evening in Madrid, ideal for a round with his dog Sam - telephone interview back or forth. "Sorry", apologizes Alder. "I hope that's okay!" It is. The promotion for his solo album "What The Water Wants" is done by the 52-year-old, whom the progmetal fans know as the singer of Fates Warning. Because time is something the Spaniard by choice does not have much of at his disposal at the moment. Completing the album took longer than expected. The promotion dates now fall into a phase in which Alder is already working on new songs for Fates Warning.

BATTLES travel to different epochs of pop history

Every four years the New York band Battles releases a new album. Originally started as a quartet, the formation shrank to duo strength on their fourth CD "Juice B Crypts". However, this does as little to break down their ingenuity as it does their volume. Battles, these are still drummer John Stanier and guitarist Ian Williams. The songs on "Juice B Crypts" couldn't be more different.

Eight years after the end of Sonic Youth, KIM GORDON presents her first solo album.

Milestones like "Daydream Nation" or "Goo" made Sonic Youth an underground rock institution - until the divorce of bassist Kim Gordon and singer/guitarist Thurston Moore marked the end of the cult band: In October 2011, after 30 years and 13 albums, the New Yorkers announced their separation. Now, after a long self-discovery and the move to Los Angeles, Gordon (66) returns with her solo "No Home Record".

Blues rocker SAMANTHA FISH has a hard time making up her mind On

her last albums, the 30-year-old guitarist and singer tried her best to expand her sound spectrum, and in the process crept away from her real strength: blues rock. However, Samantha Fish apparently can't make up her mind about her private life either and switches back and forth between a place of residence in Louisiana and her actual hometown Kansas City. "I often make decisions very intuitively. That always feels good at the moment!" She has integrated Americana, Soul and Gospel into her sound canon. "That's how I grew up." But in her deepest core she is still a rocker. The fact that she also has a variable and multi-faceted voice doesn't harm a blues rock song at all.

ALCEST set off for mythological Thebes

In ancient Egypt the Sphinx served as a memorial for Pharaohs, the Hittites worshipped it as a gatekeeper, in Southeast Asian cultures it has a protective function. In Greek mythology, on the other hand, it becomes a death demon. And now she is the central artwork element on Alcest's sixth album, "Spiritual Instinct". It is precisely the ambivalence of the figure that fascinates band mastermind Stéphane "Neige" Paut so much.

IMPERIAL JADE are about to live up to their band name

"Kaiserjade" is the most valuable type of jade at all and a particularly beautiful piece of jewellery. Five young musicians from the Barcelona area thought that this would be just the right name for their band founded in 2012. "Back then we were all teenies," says 22-year-old keyboarder and guitarist Hugo Nubiola with a smile. The first album was aptly called "Please Welcome Imperial Jade" at the end of 2015, but it didn't cause as much waves as to attract attention outside Catalonia.

...and much more!
