Play Busuki! - THEODORE from Athens presents his brilliant album debut

Theodore never thinks while composing about what his listeners expect when they hear his music. "I play on it when I have an idea in my head," says the 24-year-old Greek, "and in these moments it's all about creating atmosphere. I don't like classical pop music like that. My stuff is more theatrical or cinematic. Three minute radio pieces are not for me." "It Is But It's Not" is the cryptic title of the first "real" album of the Athenian prodigy, after it threw the exclusively digital fragment "7" into the world in 2012. "That was a test balloon," explains the bearded man, "to see where my musical significance lies at 20. With my current record I am a big step further, I see it as my first true artistic calling card for the world."

The young multi-instrumentalist - Theodore plays keyboards, saxophone, guitar and glockenspiel - is a phenomenon, a "Mozart of the digital age" as he is exuberantly called in the Greek press. Oh yes, it should not be forgotten that the youngster also knows how to deal with the Greek national instrument Busuki. "Playing on it is a real concern for me," enthuses the introverted man, "I love plucking on this part. My mother infected me with it because even as a little boy she raved a lot about its unique sound to me. It's unique. I am a convinced cosmopolitan, but I can only represent him if I feel at home in the artistic tradition of my homeland. So now there's Progrock on Busuki." Prog is indeed the great passion of Theodore, who does not want to reveal his surname because "he has nothing to do with my work".

He also makes use of many other sources of inspiration: Ambient, minimal music, art rock, modern classical music. "And above all hangs my countryman Vangelis. His sound has Greek roots. And at the same time floats beyond this world. I want to follow in his footsteps."
