The eclipsed rock towns check: HAMBURG

Tuesday, May 12th, a normal working day. In the Astra-Stube the Boxed In, in the friendly & competent The Little Unsaid, in the Cotton Club the Jailhouse Jazzmen, in the night asylum Douglas Dare, in the Hasenschaukel Fleming Borby play. There's a rock session at Barrock, a song slam at Molotow. In the Monopol Bar of the Cityhotel Bossa & Friends are guests, in the Knust Wellbad, and on the forecourt the Hamburger Kneipenchor shows what a Hamburger Kneipenchor is capable of. The Villagers perform in Altona's cultural church, in the Roter Flora No Omega, in the Prinzenbar Daniel Nitt, in the Nochtspeicher Graziella Schazad and in the Golem the European New York Quartet.

BILL FAY - Song Psychologist and Mystery

Bill Fay's distrust of the public is not unfounded. After his two recordings "Bill Fay" and "Time Of The Last Persecution" were flopped at the beginning of the seventies, he was dropped by his record company, was not given a foot on the floor anymore and fell into oblivion. The two albums were re-released in 1998. Suddenly it was musicians like Nick Cave, Peter Buck (R.E.M.), Jim O'Rourke or Jeff Tweedy (Wilco) who carried the news of the forgotten English artist into the world. Fay was shocked, confessing in one of his few interviews that he hadn't expected it in his wildest dreams.

MUSE - Mission Humanity

The interview with Matt Bellamy takes place at the Hotel de Rome in Berlin, in the Renaissance suite with 85 square metres of antiques and plush, fresh fruit and a butler's service. Everything for 1500 Euro per day. But the British are also superstars with 15 million sold albums, stadium tours, Hollywood friends, beach apartments and exclusive hobbies. It is only fitting that the talk time should be estimated at 15 minutes in advance, that private questions are a no-go and that selfies should be sent off immediately. Fortunately, the artist is more relaxed than his surroundings, which is why he simply talks as long as he likes and also has a lot to say..

eclipsed: Matt, are we all drones driven by drones that are controlled by other drones?

Matt Bellamy: (laughs) You could say that.

eclipsed: Reminiscent of the "1984" concept of your album "The Resistance"..

WHITESNAKE - Purple reloaded

Coverdale is on the charm offensive in interviews, that's a well-known fact. No matter whether his counterpart is male or female, the singer compliments him, calls it by its first name as often as possible, he even pronounces German names without an accent. Coverdale is empathetic, joking, without changing the serious tone. If he meets people to whom he has already confessed speech and answer, he remembers earlier conversation contents, the meetings also lie years ago.

This binding manner may give an impression of how the 63-year-old Englishman has regained the trust of his landman Ritchie Blackmore. With the notorious Grantler, he actually wanted to set up a joint project. When the implementation became uncertain, his wife encouraged him not to abandon the plan to re-record Deep Purple material, but to realise it with Whitesnake instead.

WOLVESPIRIT - Only together are we strong and free

The new disc of the Würzburg four-man and one woman band is called "Free". In comparison to the predecessor "Dreamcatcher" (2013), the well-known hard and glam rock producer Michael Wagener has once again put on a gear in terms of professionalism. Like Elin Larsson of The Blues Pills, Debby Craft is a power front woman with a distinctly independent character, and the colourful and form-ful comic artwork also builds a similar Seventies hippie image.

eclipsed: What does "Free" stand for? With the revealing cover of a naked lady with flowing long hair you could think of some other things besides old hippie ideals.

VIBRAVOID - Psychedelic lone fighters

Vibravoid have been working on their vision of psychedelic rock music for over twenty years now, trying to live up to the spirit of the lysergic acid soaked, brightly coloured sixties era with bands like Pink Floyd, Strawberry Alarm Clock or Iron Butterfly. Singer and guitarist Christian Koch, called the "doctor", gives information about past and present.

eclipsed: What is the significance of your debut "2001" for you today?

Doctor: It was definitely a good start for us as a band, because we didn't impose any musical restrictions on ourselves for the future, but offered a spectrum from which we can still draw today. I think the album still sounds amazingly up-to-date and fresh.

eclipsed: Especially abroad you enjoy a reputation as a true psychedelic band. Have you ushered in a new period of psychedelic music?

Through Ganesha to Moksha - MY SLEEPING KARMA have reached the last stage of a passage

Desertfest 2015 is in full swing. In April Berlin regularly becomes the epicentre of the international heavy psychedelic and stoner rock scene. Festival director Matthias "Matte" Vandeven doesn't mind giving an interview eclipsed despite the stress that keeps him busy during the three days. However, not in his function as organizer, but as bassist of My Sleeping Karma.

The band from Aschaffenburg has been an integral part of the local New-Artrock-/Stoner-Rock scene since their formation in 2005 and has made a distinctive feature their own: the powerful Walls of Sound, to which they give an exotic touch with Indian sounds.
