SUMMER OF MUSIC - 50 Years Woodstock Festival

Woodstock was chaos, mass accumulation, three-day traps, drugs, storms, mud, (initially) financial disaster for the makers and funders. Although there were several major rock festivals in 1969 that went off without a hitch, this anarchic hippie happening is still considered legendary, the mother of all festivals. The "spirit of Woodstock" is still being whispered, the peaceful coexistence of about half a million people who flooded the festival grounds is being praised. Was Woodstock really the highlight of the Love & Peace movement? What was special about this festival, what set it apart from other major musical events of the time? Or were the three days in August 1969 simply exaggerated? A rock'n'roll diaper? Tracking.

SANTANA - Jambo-Jams

It was a small sensation when three years ago the old Santana Band with Mike Shrieve, Gregg Rolie and Michael Carabello got together again and released the album "Santana IV". Now Carlos Santana has completely reshuffled his group and recalibrated its stylistic orientation. In the midst of feverish, congas-fired Latin rock, an ancient voice suddenly rises: Africa speaks!

BIG BIG TRAIN - Train of young academics

A Grand Tour was a cultural tradition in the 17th and 18th centuries, a kind of educational trip for young academics from a wealthy family. At the end of their studies, they set out to visit artistically outstanding sites throughout Europe. They visited historical monuments and buildings and later discussed the impressions gained during the trip. Big Big Train are joining this tradition with their new record and are undertaking a grand tour into the past and present.

CHANDELIER - Class reunion at the Loreley

Chandelier's narrow oeuvre is now available again with the release of the last album "Timecode". Like the two previous albums, this one is also available as a double-decker. The German Neoprogband celebrates the end of their reissue campaign with a unique reunion performance at the "Night Of The Prog".

BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN - Nonstop through the USA

Bruce Springsteen has now returned to the studio after his personality show, which featured him in over 200 performances on Broadway. He recorded 13 new songs there. The Uramerican Springsteen is on his way in these - as a hitchhiker by car, on wild horses or as a passenger in the "Tucson Train". Like Wyatt and Billy in "Easy Rider", the musician seems to be looking for a lost America on his solo record, one that doesn't exist at the moment.

LUCIFER'S FRIEND - The oldest hobby band in the world

Lucifer's Friend could celebrate their 50th band anniversary next year. Even if they were founded in 1970, this would have been a bit of a hair's breadth, since the German-English troops were inactive for most of the last five decades. Since about four years she has changed from sleep to watch mode again and has just released an impressive hard rock album with "Black Moon".

MANDOKI SOULMATES - The band of the bandleaderLeslie Mandoki is touring Germany with his soulmates this autumn. These will include Supertramps John Helliwell, ex-Earth band singer Chris Thompson, ex-Toto singer Bobby Kimball, trumpeterass Till Brönner and many other big names. They will then present the new Soulmates double album that producer Leslie Mandoki is currently mixing. Until then fans can tune in to the just released double Blu-ray "Wings Of Freedom".

IZZ - Thumb in the solar wind

The New York ensemble IZZ around the brothers Tom and John Galgano has been one of the most exciting prog suppliers from overseas for two decades. Since that time it has known how to build an elegant bridge to Europe. Four years after their last regular studio album "Everlasting Instant", a new work is now available, which more than just makes you sit up and take notice. Not least because of his reference to Douglas Adams.

HOLLYWOOD VAMPIRES - Dance of the Vampires

When the Hollywood Vampires were founded in 2015 by longtime buddies Alice Cooper, Johnny Depp and Joe Perry, nobody would have believed that the band would last long. That's exactly what she's doing. The Vampires tour regularly, worldwide, and they now released their second album "Rise". With this they prove above all that they are a real band project in which all the protagonists are musically involved.

BIG WHITE WONDER - 50 Years of Bootleg Culture

Almost every record collector has one thing on his shelf: a bootleg. At first, the manufacturers and sellers of unauthorized studio and concert recordings were washing their way through loopholes in the Code. But the record industry and the artists it represented quickly declared war on the hustle and bustle to recover lost profits. 50 years ago "Great White Wonder" was released, a double LP with songs by Bob Dylan: the first bootleg in rock history.

GENERATION AXE - The longest guitar solo in the world

Under the banner of Generation Axe, Steve Vai has gathered a whole armada of great guitarists around him and put them on the tour bus. Together with Zakk Wylde (Black Label Society, Ozzy Osbourne), Yngwie Malmsteen, Nuno Bettencourt (Extreme) and Tosin Abasi (Animals As Leaders) the high priest of all stunt guitarists has already done two US tours and one trip to Asia. During their trip to the Far East, they also recorded their latest live album "The Guitars That Destroyed The World: Live In China".

The CHRIS ROBINSON BROTHERHOOD lives on a smaller foot - and enjoys it

Huge stadiums, 30 million albums sold, desert drug excesses, but also two divorces and children for whom he has no custody: Chris Robinson experienced all the ups and downs of the Showbiz brand - and came to a momentous conclusion: He simply has no desire anymore for all the hustle and bustle that goes along with a successful rock band like the Black Crowes. That's why he now lives in Marin County, in the mountainous north of San Francisco, in very modest, rural conditions. "I've got a cabin, a studio, a woman and a lot of whales swimming outside the bay. Plus a lot of hippies and deadheads in the neighborhood. It's a freaky community." Their influence is also reflected in his music. Because Robinson, who lives off the royalties of the Crowes years, no longer makes a conventional, mass-produced skirt.

Half a century ago the German band EPITAPH was founded

Epitaph's career began in the winter of 1969/70. And that in the cellars of the Dortmund music club Fantasio. Success in the USA came quickly - but also financial difficulties, which led to the multiple break in the band's history. But the group around the British guitarist Cliff Jackson and the German bassist Bernd Kolbe proved to be long-lasting. Their new album "Long Ago Tomorrow" will be released in time for their golden anniversary.

With "Citizen: In The Next Life" BILLY SHERWOOD resurrects a lost soul once again

Three and a half years after the concept album "Citizen" with "Citizen: In The Next Life", the multi-instrumentalist, singer and current Yes-bassist Billy Sherwood has dealt a second time with his fictional figure Citizen, a man whose soul incarnates in ever new historical situations. A bad thing for Citizen is that he has to stay only in dark times. Unlike his predecessor, the 54-year-old Sherwood, who also works as a sound engineer and producer, recorded everything on his own this time.

Neil Hannon from THE DIVINE COMEDY still has melodies in stock that work on and off stage

Neil Hannon and The Divine Comedy are always good for surprises. Hannon is a music lover who constantly sucks all kinds of sound directions. The new album "Office Politics" is a treasure chest of bizarre ideas and irresistible melodies. Hannon neither wants to be limited nor underchallenge his listeners. After 30 years of band history and a dozen albums, he still wants to entertain himself and his listeners at the highest level - and sometimes annoy them a little bit.

First listening impressions of "In Cauda Venenum", the 13th studio album by OPETH

The atmosphere is right: Rain drums onto the roof as Mikael Åkerfeldt in Donzdorf, Württemberg, speaks the introductory words to the presentation of "In Cauda Venenum" ("In the sting [is] the poison") in front of the assembled Journaille. Opeth's new album will be released in two versions: a Swedish and an English one. We have summarized song for song in advance, what is rolling towards the scene.

Frank Bornemann will soon present the final part of his ELOY heart project about Jeanne d'Arc

Eloy mastermind Frank Bornemann presents in August the second part of his ambitious prog opera about France's national saint Jeanne d'Arc. "The Vision, The Sword & The Pyre (Part II)" is a work with great choirs and numerous guest musicians. At the Horus Studio in Hanover, Bornemann eclipsed first performed the almost instrumental raw versions - reciting the historically founded lyrics synchronously to the music.
