25 Yard Screamer have a problem: They convince only late, perhaps too late. At first one thinks, the British do nothing wrong, but also nothing remarkably well. It seems as if all their progmetal skills are uselessly lost and the new album "Something That Serves To Warn Or Remind" simply ripples away. If you listen to the nine tracks more closely, some passages are simply too lengthy or meaningless (for example in "The Ritual", "Home Is Not Home" or "Lost In A Green And Blue Sky" despite the brilliant guitar solo at the end). But there are also several worthwhile details. Like the quiet middle section in "Always There" with bass and bells. Or strange synth sounds behind all the heavy guitars in "Welcome To Here". The 25 yard Screamer on this album have reduced the degree of hardness. Maybe it's because of the addition of a keyboard player that "Something That Serves To Warn Or Remind" is less progmetal and more artrock, as the concluding "Just Myself And My Keys" makes clear once again.
