The legendary Pat Metheny Group seems passé, on "Kin" the guitarist is approaching his new Unity Group for the second time. This is, so to speak, the union of the intentions of the Pat Metheny Group with the play instinct of his acoustic bands. With his usual huge arsenal of guitars, saxophone, keyboards, bass and drums, he serves the brand Pat Metheny perfectly. The guitarist's fans get their money's worth with excessive improvisations and large sound bows. With strokes of genius like his last solo album "Tap" he is stingy for his circumstances. For the duration of 70 minutes there are no sound magicians like Cuong Vu or Lyle Mays at his side. "Kin" is a solid Metheny album, but not one of those musical flashes you can expect every few years from the gifted sound inventor.
