It is always a problem when a musician has to be measured against his own work, especially when he once wrote gigantic songs and with CSN&Y is responsible for many of the most beautiful songs of the Singer-Songwriters-Metier. But of course David Crosby can still write moving pieces. Usually it's those in which the acoustic and sentence singing dominate ("Set That Baggage Down", "The Clearing"). Here Crosby actually radiates the old and intense feeling with which he once enchanted the world. More rock-oriented numbers ("What's Broken", with Mark Knopfler on guitar), on the other hand, seem a bit slow. However, they also win with every listening session, as the man still sings fantastically well for his age. Programmed drums like in "Dangerous Night", on the other hand, are annoying because it gets unpleasantly modern here, which doesn't really fit with Crosby's musical approach. But shortly afterwards the consolation comes with the mystical "Morning Falling". Compared to some of his sleeping contemporaries, Crosby proves that he still has a lot to tell.
