Sheryl Crow recorded a Nashville Country album. Compositions, production, arrangements, vocal style, lyrics, everything sounds like taken from the conservative Nashville universe. At the latest with the fourth song, "We Oughta Be Drinkin'", a Feelgood rammer about Saturday evening activities in the trailer park, you get really nauseous. Shortly afterwards, in "Waterproof Mascara", Crow sings from the perspective of a single mother who does not like to introduce her child to the changing lovers. And gradually it dawns on you: The Crow slips into different roles on "Feels Like Home", all of them well-known country clichés, but stands above things. An unusual twist in the text, a deliberately differently sung note, and one notices the ironic geerstus with which the artist approaches her subject. With this work she unmasks the recurring meshes of the Nashville singers, souls herself in exaggerated working class sentimentality or gives the buddy-like proletin "Feels Like Home" is a postmodern country album that affectionately holds up the mirror to the genre.
