Nils Petter Molvaer closes a wide circle. On his new CD he makes his peace with himself. The music doesn't polarize as strongly between balanced and aggressive moments as we know it from most of his previous albums, but works like an endless loop. Beginning, end and title of the tracks are rather arbitrary, it doesn't matter at which point of the CD you get on and after how many runs you get off again. With the former Madrugada drummer Erland Dahlen, the trumpeter has a multitasker in the band whose rich colour spectrum lends the CD a Pink-Floyd-like character. In addition there is the obsessive use of a slide guitar. It is less about individual melody arcs than about moods and jagged soundscapes. A masterpiece of musical narrative artistry and pictorial violence. Molvaer himself comes with the CD close to the early albums with his former band Khmer.
