Marissa Nadler's delicately mysterious voice is one of those that takes you into the strange mixture of innocence and malice of David Lynch's films. Since she also loves to sing about spooky American Gothic themes (this time about "Dead City Emily", for example), it couldn't be better. Anyway, the new album of the young Boston chanteuse is an even better choice than "Born To Die" by the similar Lana Del Rey. The first piece "Drive" is completely ethereal country folk, in which the spirits literally dance around in the forest. 1923" allows strings to be used in addition to lap steel. Good old Leonard Cohen is always not far away, neither in the instrumentation nor in the lyrical design. "Firecrackers" could have also breathed Marilyn Monroe at the campfire with Klampfe in a Western. Throughout the album, the ghostly women's choirs of the Nadler buzz around your head, almost always enmeshed by acoustic guitar and strings, but the tension never loses itself. Music with goose bumps guarantee.
