AVEY TARE'S SLASHER FLICKS - Enter The Slasher House

Waiting for Animal Collective's next album is shortened with the first sign of Avey Tare's Slasher Flicks, a trio that Tare has formed with members of Dirty Projectors and Ponytail. Not least because of the fact that Tare gives his voice to the Animal Collective, the sound of the Slasher Flicks is reminiscent of the bandleader's mother ship. But it's not just the vocals that sound like the immediate continuation of the last AC album "Centepede Hz", it's the whole shimmering small parts, the hectic running against each other of different sound and rhythm levels, the unpretentious exchange of analog and digital means as well as the permanent style clash. Maybe the Slasher Flicks are a bit more physical, harder and more brutal than the friendly abstract animal gang, but surely Tare could have recorded this CD just as well with the Animal Collective, which is always competing in different staff sizes anyway. Which does not harm the brittle class of the plate.
