FRANK MEYER/ROMAN LEYKAM - Levitation

Kategorie: CD-Reviews | Genre: Ambient | Heft: Jahrgang 2014, eclipsed Nr. 161 / 6-2014 | VÖ-Jahr: 2014 | Wertung: 7/10 | Label: Frank Mark Arts | Autor: BSV

The two Germans Frank Meyer and Robert Leykam did everything themselves about their new co-production "Levitation", from the sound engineering to the composition and playing of the instruments to the artwork. Both experiment with guitars and their electronic alienations, creating sounds that are difficult to define, but also warm guitar chords and melodies. The difference to Leykams numerous solo albums is that Frank Meyer enriched Leykams given soundscapes with subtle loops and synth sounds and thereby breathed life into the twelve tracks (as in "Percolating Gnosis" or "Shrouded In Mystery"). It does not remain with abstract, rhythmless sound landscapes. Melodies and rhythms are present, but only well dosed and reduced. Nevertheless, it makes the 61 minutes of play more exciting. It is the apparent restraint - only rarely does it get louder or shriller - that makes "levitation" so appealing. This gives you the opportunity to immerse yourself undisturbed in a unique world of sound.
