Tenor saxophonist Pharoah Sanders is an old comrade-in-arms of John Coltrane, who made legendary records with meditative free jazz in the late sixties and early seventies. Rob Mazurek is a trumpeter from the Tortoise environment who has found provocative syntheses of jazz avant-garde and electronic music with his projects Chicago Underground and Sao Paulo Underground. With the aged tenor bard Mazurek raises this concept to a new level that draws its urgency from jazz history. Sanders doesn't set many accents, but only his tone, which now and then looks out of the dense sound ornaments of the underground, has something fundamental, something cosmic and eternal. Exciting sound processes, gripping improvisations and a small rhythm mosaic make this CD a great adventure. This is how you can go into the future with jazz.
