Paul D'Amour was certainly a little annoyed when he left Tool in 1995, allegedly because of artistic differences. Since then, the bassist has released a few records with the Replicants, Lusk and Feersum Enjin, but without being particularly successful. Maybe Lesser Key, his new and current project, will change this vehemently. Produced by Sylvia Massey, who was also responsible for the first tool works, the debut EP will go back to the roots of Paul D'Amour. Singer Andrew Zamudio sounds like Maynard James Keenan every now and then in the most impressive moments, while the band rumbles and pleasantly hard rocks. But while his former colleagues are on the move in the stormy oceans of imponderability and are not sailing around possible icebergs, but heading confidently towards them, everything remains comprehensible and thoughtful here at Lesser Key. This is not necessarily unpleasant, but relatively low-tension.
