Oops, what's going on? The boundless melancholic artpop of the Engineers experiences an adrenaline rush. At least with "Bless The Painter", which is actually a very fast opener for the band. But already with the following "Fight Or Flight" everything is back to normal and the engineers again project their cuddly, a little slow, but always highly atmospheric Shoegaze pop. The inclusion of the German electronic ambient specialist Ulrich Schnauss, who has been a permanent engineer member since the last album "In Praise Of More", gives the already dreamy sound of the Londoners an even more dreamy note. The instrumental "Innsbruck" would have made an excellent appearance on a Schnauss/Peters community album. With "Smiling Back" and "A Million Voices" the engineers gain a bit more momentum again and come along with a (unconscious?) laudation to the guitar music of the Eighties. And "Smoke And Mirrors" seems like a bow to the electronic music of the Berlin school, which is surely also a merit of the new keyboarders.
