With its name, Gran Turismo Veloce from Tuscany deliberately evokes associations with the Alfa Romeo sports coupes that were popular in the sixties and seventies. Since the Italian quartet could book more than only a respect success at this year's "Night Of The Prog", we would like to refer to their 2011 album "Di Carne, Di Anima" again. Parallels to the classic Italo-Prog-Bands are not to be rejected here from the hand. Nevertheless, Gran Turismo Veloce don't simply jump on the currently hip retro bandwagon, but let both jazzy and hard rock elements flow into their pieces and refine their mixture with subtle electronica elements and a dash of Italian Cantautori charm. In "Sorgente sonora" the band adds a dashing accordion break and in "Misera Venere (Reprise)" mellotron and flute are heard. Smaller dissonances give "Di Carne, di Anima" the right flavour, and especially the instrumental "Quantocàmia" as well as "L'estremo viaggiatore" have a sporty and stylish effect - like the car mentioned at the beginning.
