Marching bands are not everyone's cup of tea. But they are the most important part of the new album of singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Shara Worden. So if you can't warm up for samba-meets march rhythms, flutes, trombones and trumpets, you probably won't have much fun with this album. The experimental New Yorker joins these marching band elements with dancefloor electropop and her bell-pure soprano to form idiosyncratic yet catchy indie pop cabinet pieces. To combine seemingly contradictory elements into a harmonious piece, Worden succeeds several times in a grandiose way. "Lover Killer is equally cool, sterile, organic and vibrant. The "Looking At The Sun", which begins eccentrically with very high vocals, takes off with the already mentioned wind ensembles. Shape" manages without marching band elements, which initiates an excursion into the Ambient. Also "So Easy" and "Resonance" fit here, but are grounded by drums. With "Apparition" Worden and Co. finally float away into unknown dimensions.
