The Order Of Israfel's debut album proves that some things are worth maturing. According to their own statements, guitarist Tom Sutton (ex-Church-Of-Misery) and bassist Patrik Andersson Winberg (ex-Doomdogs) are said to have spent ten years with the idea of starting a band together. "Wisdom" offers, even if the biography of the two musicians suggests it, by no means exclusively classical Doom material. The heavy, dramatic slow-motion riffs and the sometimes pastoral singing breathe the spirit of scene icons like Candlemass. But the sound of this band reaches far beyond the framework that normally holds this genre together. For instance with conspicuous, but by no means intrusive hard rock bonds. In addition, the Swedish-Australian quartet already hints at a feeling for folky arrangements at the beginning of the opening track "Wisdom", which unfolds fully in the more than eight-minute number "The Earth Will Deliver What Heaven Desires". With darker chorales and acoustic guitars the band asks for an imaginary campfire to dance.
