One speaks of "holy pain" when one encounters absolute beauty. Pope Gregory the Great once called this "Compunctio". The Swede Johan Tronestam takes this theme as the starting point for his new album. The rhythm is powerful. Modern electronica sounds are combined in the "Intro" with Enigma-like choirs of monks. Then you approach the Tangerine-Dream sound cosmos with "Loneliness". A siren-like lead synth like Klaus Schulze introduces "Between The Lost And The Coming". In "What Is The Truth", spoken scraps of words are added to rumbling sequencers, just like Jean Michel Jarre or Vangelis once did. The longer you let Tronestam's powerful, rhythmic sound sculptures work on you, the more you sink into them. With "Rituals Part 2" the musician treats himself to a quieter piece before he puts a robot dance on the floor with "The End And Beginning" together with his computer voice. And "Ritual Combinations" finally creates a wonderful dramaturgy by enumerating the numbers from one to ten.
