"Sattyg" is Swedish for mischief or devilry. Why the twelfth album of the Swedish sextet around keyboarder Hans Lundin listens to this name is not obvious. Unless, of course, the band meant the risk of going even further towards Scandinavian folks and symphonic structures this time, and the result isn't quite right for them themselves. "Sattyg" offers typical Kaipa harmony structures and sounds. And Aleena Gibson's singing seems to have a bigger share in the whole Klangkuchen. But overall the work offers more baroque than rock, more recorder, spinet and violin than guitar and more waltz than progressive time signature. That would be, although surprisingly, quite exciting if the seven songs (including three in the 13 to 15 minute range) could offer the listener more fixed points. Earwigs, such as on "Angling Feelings", are just as missing from "Sattyg" as instrumental highlights. The songs are handcrafted well, but lose themselves too much in arbitrariness. To say that must be allowed with a band of this potential.
