Ron Evans is a good singer and a decent guitarist who has dedicated himself to modern blues rock in its various forms. The CD recorded in the Village in Habach in front of a probably small audience (whose despondent and restrained applause says a lot about the gig) was solidly produced. Beside classics - "Help Me - Hip Shake", a number that develops from slow blues to boogie; "The Pusher" by Steppenwolf with a really cool flute - melodic Americana ("Lovers On The Run"), driving blues rock ("Rock Is My Business") and midtempo blues ("Mind Of My Own") were on the "menu". However, there were two problems with the gig: With the exception of the first-class Steve Hooks on the "blower", things looked pretty maucous in terms of solos. And then the energy level. Many of the tracks presented sounded, to put it politely, "more than relaxed". There was also a lack of interaction and live kick, so you too often have the feeling of listening to a band over coffee and cake in the rehearsal room on Sunday afternoons. Too bad, because Evans can do better than that.
