SIMPLE MINDS - Big Music

The Simple Minds took a long time to work their way out of a mediocre phase. They had already given up hope that they would do great things again. The return to their early work with the tour "5x5" seems to have helped them to new inspiration. The opener "Blindfolded" contains all the characteristics that made the band famous on records like "New Gold Dream" or "Sparkle In The Rain": driving rhythm, wavy electronics and still rock bite in voice and guitar. The exuberant, sequenced "Midnight Walking" is absolutely eighties and the hypnotic single "Honest Town" is in tune with Jim Kerr lines. The brute title track combines modern sounds with the "Big Music" as the Minds celebrate in their heyday. The old magic is back, even if you can't really get close to your own great deeds. The affordable Deluxe Edition includes a bonus CD with the great "Swimming Towards The Sun", covers of "Riders On The Storm" (The Doors) and Patti Smith's "Dancing Barefoot" as well as a DVD with videos, clips and interviews.
