With her debut "Without The World", which was released not so long ago, and her collaboration with Leonardo Rosado, which led to the album "Dear And Unfamiliar", Alicia Merz alias Birds Of Passage established herself as the most transcendent of what drone and ambient pop currently have to offer. Winter Lady" is again a hoard of wondrous soundscapes, which are actually much too beautiful to be a reality. The "Winter Lady", who turns her name into a vocation and sugar-coats the landscapes and soundscapes with a melancholic hoarfrost, is correspondingly out of touch with reality. The voices come rather tenderly and self-forgotten, more breathed than sung, as if out of fear of hurting or even destroying some of these extremely tender creatures that are created here. The sounds, however, are hardly noticeable, so that almost only the vocals of Merz seem to be lasting. Nevertheless, everything remains pop, as animated by extremely digestible melodies.
