The voice of Philip Griffiths also seems to float over the ten songs on the fourth longplayer of the Mannheim Alias Eye. This detached singing feeling gives the troupe its special touch. That doesn't always work well, as "Break What We Know" proves. The band and singers act as if they were playing on two different planets. The funk-jazz title track or the gripping "All The Rage", on the other hand, is a wonderful cross-fertilization. One of the highlights of "In Between" is without a doubt the reinterpretation of the Beggars opera song "Time Machine", on which Philip's father, former BO front man Martin Griffiths, can also be heard. With "Indentured Pride" and "Distant Memories" they already offer impressively what you would expect from a new Saga album. The only difference is that guitarist Matthias Wurm usually enriches the pieces with a pithy and powerful sound rather than virtuosity. What you can always rely on with Alias Eye is that they seldom repeat themselves and that they like to broaden their style, even if it sounds like Supertramp on "Take What's Mine".
