Are today's technical possibilities for home recording a blessing or a curse? Mona Steinwidder alias Mohna from Hamburg shows on "The Idea Of It" how far you can get in a cellar with little equipment nowadays. Keyboard, vocals, some percussion effects, and quickly you recorded an album. A blessing then? Partly, partly. Because what is often missing in such recordings is the organizing hand of a producer, someone who bundles ideas and throws superfluous things overboard. That's not to say that the dark, haunting songs on Mohnas second album are bad, quite the opposite. But sometimes they get a little sick of the sometimes misguided arrangement ideas like cheap sounding synthetic drums, which take away some of the aura of the otherwise beautiful song "9". Apart from that, these eleven rousing songs are reminiscent of Lisa Germano's unjustly forgotten brilliant album "Geek The Girl", released in 1995. Just a little worse arranged.
