PERFUME GENIUS - Put You Back N 2 It

Kategorie: CD-Reviews | Genre: Artpop/Pop | Heft: Jahrgang 2012, eclipsed Nr. 138 / 3-2012 | VÖ-Jahr: 2012 | Wertung: 7/10 | Label: Beggars | Autor: SaS

Behind Perfume Genius lies the young American Mike Hadreas. Two years ago, his debut album "Learning" had received a lot of advance praise, especially because of the oppressive abuse study "Mr. Peterson" and the almost unpleasant intimacy it radiated. On his second album the young man has changed his style very little. The songs are still sketchy, sparsely arranged, often only marked by a scurrying piano and Hadreas longing voice moving in Thom Yorkes heights. But in some songs Perfume Genius almost radiates a little warmth, in the title song a "gay love song about gay sex" even a certain pop flair. But the themes are no less difficult than on the first album and revolve around Hadrea's difficulties as a young, homosexual man to get along in a homophobic society. Vulnerable, intimate music.
