The Icelanders are clearly on the advance of pop music. Not only Sigur Rós are once again on everyone's lips with their spherical post-rock, Olafur Arnalds also always appears where you wouldn't expect him. Now the Icelandic multi-talent appears as producer and has the debut of the young band Árstídir in his luggage. They make surprisingly un-Icelandic music. Or who would have thought that this rather spartan, intimately produced acoustic folk pop was a product from the land of geysers? Nothing crazy is to be found here, rather almost to solid craftsmanship. A man with a friendly voice sings simple but beautiful melodies to an acoustic guitar. In addition la cellos and violins appear again and again. The special joke for Central European ears is, of course, how interesting the singing in this singer-songwriter environment, mostly in Icelandic language, is. But it gets sobering when the band suddenly sings a song in English. Because then the whole thing seems a bit banal.
