This music is pulsating. She's dark, hypnotic and a little mean too. It takes a little time to get into the grumbling voice of vocal acrobat David Moss. But once this happens, you can hardly resist the sounds on "Like Likes Like". Denseland, that's besides the mentioned David Moss electronic Hanno Leichtmann and bassist Hannes Strobl. Actually, her still lifes are all about rhythm. Melodies are perceived, if at all, only by the subconscious. There are no light, bright tones at all on this record. And yet this music grooves like hell. Moos echauffiert itself like Alan Vega, comes along semi-harmonically like David Byrne or grumbles in low registers like Boris Grebenshikov. But his multi-faceted vocals are not the only trademark of Denseland. The stylistic device of minimalism is exploited to the maximum here - with mantras from nowhere. It's a long way to the redeeming Horse Of Your Dreams. But one that you always like to tread on in the right mood.
