Les Paul was not only a grandiose guitar builder, but also a first-class jazz musician, who already entered a stage as often as possible in the forties. This tribute was initiated by Lou Pallo, a member of Les Pauls Band. On the 21 tracks of the album Jazz and Swing dominate of course, even if different fellow musicians make their contribution. Steve Miller is swinging casually on Mr. Day/Tell Me What's The Reason. Billy F. Gibbons keeps a low profile and plays a quiet, very emotional solo in the "September Song". And Keith Richards sings and plays guitar together with Lou Pallo on "It's Been A Long, Long Time", a number that sounds like they left a smoky bar at 4am. There is also a fast, swinging version of "Mister Sandman" with Arlen Roth, a Latin version of "Bésame Mucho" with the fantastic José Feliciano and a jazz blues with slash from the Gunners on guitar ("Deep In The Blues"). And already the 70 minutes without a second of boredom are over. Great.
