The Bostoner Todd Thibaud belongs in the drawer of the American rockers, which one likes to hear, because here not faceless US mainstream stadium rock, but still good songwriter art is offered. Much sounds like the link between Jackson Browne's most commercial eighties albums and the power rock of a Bruce Springsteen. The rustic opener "What May Come" creates a good mood at first and the following "Not For Me" could actually come from Browne. The Midtempoballaden title song plays a beautiful dim organ and can be sung along wonderfully on this record like practically any other track. But this is exactly where the problem lies. In the long run the very authentic check shirt rock with the heart on the right spot is a bit too nice, the organic tracks, although they never slip into kitsch or superficiality, are too uniformly knitted. What's missing are explosions, slandered sounds and moving ballads. But if you love Thibaud's sound, you're on the safe side. And all the others are reconciled by a midnight lurker like "Stranger" or an acoustic like "Evermore".
